Plans for February 7 to February 11

Monday (B):

  • View: Quack! Volume 7 Part 2
  • Note-taking: Students will take notes on Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats, and we will discuss the thematic focus for the day’s poetry. 
  • Read: Shelley’s “Ozymandias," Keats’s “Ode to a Grecian Urn,” and “When I Have Fears that I May Cease to Be.”
  • Create: Illustrations of Keat's Urn using the imagery from the poem.

Tuesday or Wednesday (A/B):

  • Review: Quack! Vol. 7 Part 2 Words
  • Read and Discuss: Introduction to Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights, and the context in which the novel was written (handout)
  • View: Five Things You Need To Know Before Reading Wuthering Heights
  • Begin Reading: Chapter 1 together as a class, pausing to discuss key passages, plot developments, the narrator’s perspective, and answer any questions that students may have. 
  • Closing Activity: Students will receive a study guide for chapters 1 through 9.  They will be responsible for working on (and completing this study guide) by the end of chapter 9.  They will have the last few minutes of class to begin working on the study guide with a partner. 
  • Homework: Read chapters 1 -3 and be prepared for a reading check quiz next class.  You will also have a Quack! quiz, so be sure to also review your words.

Thursday or Friday (A/B):

  • Quack! Quiz: Vol. 7 Part 2
  • Reading Check Quiz: Wuthering Heights, chapters 1-3
  • Discuss: We will review key plot developments, major themes, and crucial passages from these chapters of the novel.
  • Type I Quick Write
  • Begin Reading: Chapter 4 (pgs. 32-34), discussing how Mr. Lockwood is now going to hear a story from Mrs. Dean, who takes over narrating the story of Heathcliff and Catherine’s childhood. 
  • Homework: Read chapter 4-7 and be prepared for a reading check quiz next class.
